Birthday bash turns ugly

Broken beer bottles and blood stains on the tent was all that remained when two people were stabbed and several badly beaten after chaos erupted at a 21st birthday party at a block of flats in Sydenham around midnight on Saturday 22 November.

Grant Clark had an unforgettable 21st birthday party after a group of boys stormed his party and beat up his guests at the Silver Stone complex in Crouch Road. It is alleged that a group of boys entered the complex and allegedly began intimidating another group of boys at the party. A heated argument ensued between the two groups of boys. It is alleged that one of the boys pulled out a firearm and allegedly struck the other boy over the head. It is alleged that this sparked a free for all fight. Beer bottles were allegedly thrown. It is alleged that two boys were stabbed while defending themselves. Sources revealed that party goers fell over one another trying to flee the fight. It is alleged that one of the boys that was stabbed had an altercation with the other group of boys previously. The fight also spilt over onto Crouch Road.

Zero Tolerance - Top Cop Acts Against Gangsters

Station Commissioner of Sydenham, Snr Supt Glen Nayager is on the warpath, after bottles were hurled against Police vehicles and acts of gangsterism marred the weekend.

In the first incident on Saturday, 2 August, police attending a disturbance complaint at the Barns Road grounds allegedly came under attack from drunken revellers who refused to abide by the law. A group of revellers allegedly began hurling bottles and stones at the police van. At the Asherville grounds, a 21 year-old male was severely assaulted by a group of youngsters calling themselves the ‘Springtown Boys’. Sydenham Police Spokesman Captain Mayen Lazarus said the man allegedly played a game of football with the group.

It is unclear what surfaced after the match but the man was badly beaten. A case of assault was opened at the station for investigation.

Drug dealers must move out!!

Two alleged drug peddlers were murdered in cold blood in a space of five days at the Sydenham Heights flats in Rippon Road. Concerned residents vow to put an end to the irregular social behavior.

On Saturday 8 March an alleged drug dealer Billy Parker was stabbed once in the chest after an altercation with another alleged drug dealer Glen James outside A Block. It is alleged that while James was fleeing the scene another resident grabbed hold of him and in the scuffle James stabbed him once in the forearm.James then allegedly tried to disarm the deceased. It is also alleged that the two were drinking together before the incident.The murder weapon was found. James handed himself over to Police claiming that he acted in self defence.On Thursday 13 March, unknown gunmen murdered Louis King an alleged drug dealer on the first floor stairwell.Sydenham police spokesman Capt M.Lazarus said "A green double cab stopped outside the building. Four males alighted the vehicle and proceeded towards the staircase.

Sydenham Twins Play For Supersport United

The Kell twins of Spearman Road in Sydenham touched down in Pretoria on Wednesday, 16 January to join the ABSA Premiership League Team Super sport United (SSU).

Twins Brylon and Brandon share a wall-to-wall cabinet in the dining room filled to the brim with soccer trophies off all shapes and sizes. It is a monument of their immense talent and accomplishments over the last 10 years.

Their proud mother Carol Kell said it came as no surprise when a scout from the Supersport United Team approached her with the proposition of parting with her sons to allow them to play for the Premier League Team.

"While playing in a Provincial soccer tournament for KwaZulu-Natal last year a scout for Supersport approached me with the proposal. The boys have been soccer-mad since they were barely walking. They also had a choice between hockey and cricket in school but had to drop those codes as the strain would have been too much," said Carol.

Brylon and Brandon are both schooling at Westville Boys High. They were still contemplating the offer they received from Durban High School, a 100% scholarship for 2008, when they were...
