Homeless boy killed trying to avoid 'police' beating

A homeless boy was killed over the weekend in Durban when he was allegedly knocked over after allegedly trying to escape being beaten by two law enforcement officials.

The incident took place on Friday night in Brickhill Road. It was reported that Nkululeko 'Jomo' Mthethwa (17) died on the scene when he was allegedly knocked over by an approaching Toyota. Tom Hewitt, the chief executive of the street children organisation, Uthombo. was on the scene. He said that several eye witnesses alleged that the boy had been handcuffed and was being beaten by an enforcement official dressed in plain clothes.

Mthethwa allegedly tried to evade the beating and stepped into the road where he was knocked over and killed by the approaching vehicle.
