Zero Tolerance - Top Cop Acts Against Gangsters

Station Commissioner of Sydenham, Snr Supt Glen Nayager is on the warpath, after bottles were hurled against Police vehicles and acts of gangsterism marred the weekend.

In the first incident on Saturday, 2 August, police attending a disturbance complaint at the Barns Road grounds allegedly came under attack from drunken revellers who refused to abide by the law. A group of revellers allegedly began hurling bottles and stones at the police van. At the Asherville grounds, a 21 year-old male was severely assaulted by a group of youngsters calling themselves the ‘Springtown Boys’. Sydenham Police Spokesman Captain Mayen Lazarus said the man allegedly played a game of football with the group.

It is unclear what surfaced after the match but the man was badly beaten. A case of assault was opened at the station for investigation.

Sydenham Twins Play For Supersport United

The Kell twins of Spearman Road in Sydenham touched down in Pretoria on Wednesday, 16 January to join the ABSA Premiership League Team Super sport United (SSU).

Twins Brylon and Brandon share a wall-to-wall cabinet in the dining room filled to the brim with soccer trophies off all shapes and sizes. It is a monument of their immense talent and accomplishments over the last 10 years.

Their proud mother Carol Kell said it came as no surprise when a scout from the Supersport United Team approached her with the proposition of parting with her sons to allow them to play for the Premier League Team.

"While playing in a Provincial soccer tournament for KwaZulu-Natal last year a scout for Supersport approached me with the proposal. The boys have been soccer-mad since they were barely walking. They also had a choice between hockey and cricket in school but had to drop those codes as the strain would have been too much," said Carol.

Brylon and Brandon are both schooling at Westville Boys High. They were still contemplating the offer they received from Durban High School, a 100% scholarship for 2008, when they were...
