Sushmita is back with bang!

Co-produced by Drena DeNiro, daughter of legendary Robert DeNiro, much-awaited film stars Sushmita Sen, Randeep Hooda, Rati Agnihotri, Suresh Oberoi, Deepal Shaw and international super model, Naomi Campbell, underground rapper Sticky Fingaz & Vincent Pannetta to name a few.

Karma aur Holi happens to be the first Bollywood and Hollywood joint production with mainstream stars from both the film industries. This Karmic encounter of cultural confluences has come full cycle this Holi.

Sanjay's fond memories

Working in Zoya Akhtar’s Luck by Chance has brought back fond memories for Sanjay Kapoor, who recently launched his production company.

“Shooting with Juhi who is my co-star in Luck by Chance, instantly took me back to the days when we did Kartavya together. Juhi was my leading lady.

Divya Bharati was the original heroine of the film but because of her untimely demise, Juhi had to step in.”

Sanjay said that he had a great time since he was familiar with most of the people on the sets.

Fishy Surprise!

It was a fishy surprise for seamen recently, after they caught a historical Oarfish off the deep coast of Durban.

Sea world spokeswoman Ann Kunz said that the Oarfish was brought to Sea World at uShaka Marine World over the past weekend for identification and record purposes. The Oarfish is approximately 3.7 m long and was caught by a pawn trawler, 'The Elize', at a depth of about 400m.

Aishwarya Rai is globetrotting again

Aishwarya Rai's role mightn't be that big in 'The Pink Panther 2' but she's going on a world tour to attend the film's premieres.

It’s been called a Steve Martin film with Ash not getting much mileage, but the lady is set to attend the film’s premiere in various cities across the globe, starting with the New York premiere alongside her hubby recently.

Her husband Abhishek will be together with her on February 5 to celebrate his birthday and parents Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan , would join them in NY too.

Gran fights for teen’s education

A Durban grandmother is trying in vain to have her fourteen year old grandson accepted at school this year. So determined is she to see her grandson educated that she has opened charges against two social workers.

The Durban grandmother, Thelma Sampson was accused of kidnapping Tyron Turton (14) by two Durban social workers. This has resulted in a rumor that has left her grandson Tyrone without a school to attend. The Durban social worker and her manager appeared in the Durban equality court on Tuesday 10 February 2009 on charges of defamation of character and hate speech. The case was remanded to 3 March 2009.

Sampson spoke to The Weekly Gazette in an exclusive interview. "Tyron is in my care for several years. His right to education should not be hindered for any reason.

UKZN graduates receive prestigious Cecil Renaud Scholarship

Miss Caili Forrest and Mr Daniel de Kadt will study at leading British universities later this year after they were bestowed with the coveted Cecil Renaud Scholarship.

Worth 21 000 pounds each, the scholarship is likely to see Miss Forrest pursue a Masters degree in Geography and Environmental Management at Cambridge University in September while Mr de Kadt has aspirations to read for his Masters in Political Science.

The Cecil Renaud Scholarship, initiated by the Cecil Renaud Trust, is awarded annually to postgraduate students who display sound leadership skills, have the potential to make a positive contribution in their chosen career and excel academically.

Durban University of Technology closes indefinitely

The Durban University of Technology- Steve Biko Campus in Mansfield Road has been shut down indefinitely following a strike by staff and students.

While students at the campus protested about issues affecting their registration at the campus, staff was deadlocked with management over a wage increase of 14%. Management offered a 10.5% increase and negotiations reached a stalemate.

Students protested about fee increase and the scrapping of unpaid registration fees for 2008.

Gang war erupts on streets of sydenham - 13 arrested

Slashed car tyres, smashed car windows, gun fire, brick slinging and stabbings led to the arrest of 13 alleged gangsters and the impounding of three cars after a gang fight broke out in Rippon road over the weekend.

It is alleged that an argument ensued over the dating of girls from the Sydenham Lodge(A block) by boys from Asherville. Others Speculate that it was a drug turf war. According to Sydenham police, Senior Superintendant Glen nayager it is alleged that two men from Asherville entered the Sydenham Lodge A with unknown intentions. Drug runners allegedly accosted the two men. "It is allegedly that the men were badly assaulted by drug runners. One of the men was stabbed. They left the block of flats and went to their vehicle, a Cressida that was parked outside. They allegedly phoned their friends for back up. Two other cars arrived from Asherville and allegedly began threatening the drug runners from outside the security gates", said Nayager.
