6th Annual Affordable Art Show

Art Space Durban’s Annual Affordable Art Show is one of our most popular exhibitions since it’s inception 6 years ago! We manage to collect a wide range of fine art and to keep the prices down. The maximum sale price is again R2 500 this year.

As in years past we have over 100 participating artists and a wide selection of paintings, ceramics, sculptures, prints, photographs, and drawings.

The Annual Affordable Art Show is also running at the Co-op Gallery at Heritage in Hillcrest Shops 86, 87, and 88 along with the African Toy Shop in cooperation with Fresh Paint Gallery.

The weakest link?

It will be a bleak Christmas for the families that lost love ones on Tuesday, 16 December in the latest bus accident involving SA Roadlink bus services.

The roadlink bus crashed into a car on the N2 near Hibberdene. Eleven people lost their lives while 18 were injured. The bus was traveling from Cape Town to Durban. Newspaper reports alleged that the bus was trying to overtake a truck but veered off the road, down an embankment and into the oncoming lane where it crashed into a car head on.

The impact of the accident pushed the car 20 metres away. The bus capsized on to the embankment. Five people in the car died instantly, one survivor was taken to hospital. The occupants of the car included four children and their parents. Four passengers in the bus also died at the scene. Two others died on their way to hospital.

Naroth takes third place in Mayoral Awards

Clinching his trophy tightly and standing almost motionless on the stage, he could not believe he had won the third prize for the crime prevention category.

Bonela‘s Iqbal Naroth won the third prize in the crime prevention category at the eThekwini Municipalities Mayoral Awards 2008.

Naroth previously featured in the Weekly Gazette for taking the initiative to help curb crime in the Bonela area. He had begun opening neighbourhood watches and requested more active Police participation. "For me to achieve this award I am grateful. I once again appeal to the community and the youth especially to get involved in community projects. The youth should refrain from taking drugs and consuming alcohol and put their energy to good use.

Councillor lives to tell the tale of Mumbai terrorist attacks

He sought refuge in a suburb on the outskirts of Mumbai for three nights after hearing that terrorists were targeting foreigners. He broke down and openly wept when he was reunited with his family in Durban.

Still reeling from shock and having nightmares about the continuous explosions, local ward councillor Jayraj Bachu has lived to tell the tale of how he survived the terrorist attack on India's capital city, Mumbai.

Bachu was on a business trip to Mumbai when pandemonium broke out while he was a few blocks away from the hotel. Moments before the attack, Bachu claims he was sightseeing around the Taj Hotel and had a meal at one of the restaurants across the road.

Birthday bash turns ugly

Broken beer bottles and blood stains on the tent was all that remained when two people were stabbed and several badly beaten after chaos erupted at a 21st birthday party at a block of flats in Sydenham around midnight on Saturday 22 November.

Grant Clark had an unforgettable 21st birthday party after a group of boys stormed his party and beat up his guests at the Silver Stone complex in Crouch Road. It is alleged that a group of boys entered the complex and allegedly began intimidating another group of boys at the party. A heated argument ensued between the two groups of boys. It is alleged that one of the boys pulled out a firearm and allegedly struck the other boy over the head. It is alleged that this sparked a free for all fight. Beer bottles were allegedly thrown. It is alleged that two boys were stabbed while defending themselves. Sources revealed that party goers fell over one another trying to flee the fight. It is alleged that one of the boys that was stabbed had an altercation with the other group of boys previously. The fight also spilt over onto Crouch Road.
