SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
The Kell twins of Spearman Road in Sydenham touched down in Pretoria on Wednesday, 16 January to join the ABSA Premiership League Team Super sport United (SSU).

Twins Brylon and Brandon share a wall-to-wall cabinet in the dining room filled to the brim with soccer trophies off all shapes and sizes. It is a monument of their immense talent and accomplishments over the last 10 years.

Their proud mother Carol Kell said it came as no surprise when a scout from the Supersport United Team approached her with the proposition of parting with her sons to allow them to play for the Premier League Team.

"While playing in a Provincial soccer tournament for KwaZulu-Natal last year a scout for Supersport approached me with the proposal. The boys have been soccer-mad since they were barely walking. They also had a choice between hockey and cricket in school but had to drop those codes as the strain would have been too much," said Carol.

Brylon and Brandon are both schooling at Westville Boys High. They were still contemplating the offer they received from Durban High School, a 100% scholarship for 2008, when they were...

Festive Season Leaves Pets Homeless

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
The Durban Coast SPCA has revealed that many dogs ran away from their homes over the festive season. According to Caroline Smith, Marketing Manager at the Durban SPCA, the organisation took in 40 stray dogs during the festive season and received 50 reports from owners who had lost dogs.

She also said that they had one case in which a dog died.

According to Smith, the dog had been running on the road in an attempt to escape the noise and was hit by a vehicle.

When asked to account for the manner in which the dogs react to fireworks, she said it is because of their sensitive hearing. "Their hearing is about five times more sensitive than a human's.

So when fireworks are lit, the sound is more like an explosion to them and causes them to flee," explained Smith.

She further stated that during this period, the organisation gets more stray dogs than cats.

This according Smith is because cats tend to be more "street wise" than dogs are.

"Cats know how to take care of themselves. But they too have very sensitive hearing" she added.

When asked if there is an improvement every year, Smith said that comparatively there is an improvement but went on to say that it is still not acceptable.
