Two Shot In Overport Hold-up

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend
Two armed suspects were shot dead while holding up a family in their Overport home last week.

The necessary security measures did not prevent three men from entering the house.

The suspects entered the premises by lifting the electronic roller gates off the runner and dislodging it.

Mayville SAPS Communications Officer Inspector Patrick Ngwane said that the men entered the house through the back door.

The suspects allegedly accosted the maid, the owner of the house and her nine-year-old daughter. The homeowner managed to send a text message to a family member.

"The suspects demanded cash, cell phones and valuables from them and ransacked the cupboards. It is alleged that the 9 year-old girl was in the shower at the time when the suspects entered the house. It is believed that one suspect opened the shower door and attempted to rape her. Her mother pressed the sms alert on her phone alerting her relative," said Ngwane.

Ngwane went on to say that two relatives arrived to assist them and the suspects opened fire on the one of them. "An exchange of gunfire ensued between the suspects and the relative.

The suspects ran through the house in an attempt to flee and were shot numerous times.

One suspect died in the main bedroom and another collapsed and died outside the front door.

Off-Duty Policeman Gun Down Hijacker

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Off-Duty Policemen Gun Down Hijackers Two off-duty Newlands police officers shot and killed two armed hijackers in Skipdale Road, Newlands on Thursday, 29 November.

It is believed that the suspects had attempted to hijack the police officers who were driving along the road.

Newlands SAPS Communications Officer, Const Koetsie, said that the officers were seated in a Toyota Corolla. They had stopped to allow motorists to enter the driveway when two men approached the car on the driver's side.

"The hijackers opened the door of the car and pointed a firearm at one of the police officers. They saw his police uniform and demanded his firearm.

The officer was pulled out of the car and his firearm was taken at gunpoint. One of the policeman jumped out and shouted out to the hijackers to drop their weapons. He then fired several rounds at the hijackers," said Koetsie.

The hijackers were hit several times as they fled down Skipdale Road. One of the hijackers dropped the policeman's firearm and fled together with the other suspect between houses and into bushes.

"Police followed a trail of blood into bushes where they found one of the suspects dead. The second suspect died further on.

A white Golf with occupants, who are believed to be the hijackers' accomplices, fled at a high speed. An inquest docket has been opened and investigations are continuing," said Koetsie.
